AM I MISSING SOMETHING ?
I just really don’t get it, here we are in the middle of the biggest scandal to hit Canadian politics, and there is still support for the party who is at the heart of the scandal, namely the Federal Liberals. I am not going to get into the juicy details of the scandal, you must be aware of it’s impact by now, plus the fact that there are so many blogs out there all reporting on it, here are links to some of the ones that I read on a daily basis:

These are some of the blogs that I read for information and the editorial comments from the owners of the blogs, then of course I take the time and go and read the sources for the comments.
One of the things that still astounds me is the polls that say that the Liberals still have a “fairly good percentage of support”
http://erg.environics.net/news/default.asp?aID=577
Not only that but that support could be enough to put the Liberals back into power again, What does it take for the citizens of Canada to see the Liberal Government as a bunch of crooks, that are only looking out for their own interests, and the interests of their closest friends and allies?
I recognize that you, the voters of Upper Canada (read Ontario), are not interested in having a government in place that will take away some of your “prestige, power”, maybe even do something like reform the electoral system, call it what you will, but are you really willing to keep a bunch of crooks and thieves in power?
I was born and raised in Quebec, and when the Parti Quebecois first came into power and were talking about separating from Canada, we, like a bunch of others left. We didn’t want to be separated from the rest of Canada, we thought that keeping Canada together was something worth fighting for. It is now almost 30 years later, and I have changed my mind, I am a member of the Separation Party of Alberta, and I am trying to figure out what I can do to help Quebec to separate, and at the same time, to help Alberta leave confederation.
I am now a firm believer in the theory of DEMOCRACY, true DEMOCRACY. We the Canadian people sometimes get annoyed with “outside influence” (or at least our leaders appear to), in the elections of other countries, well isn’t the Government of Canada meddling in the affairs of Quebec? What gives them the right to meddle in the Democratic affairs and processes of Quebec? If our government was truly interested in Democracy, then they would let the people of that Province decide whether or not they wish to continue in Confederation. And only become involved with making sure that a “true Democratic” process is followed.
138 years ago, the country we now called Canada was formed, probably with the idea of forming a strong nation, with the equal participation of “ALL” citizens and areas of the land. That idea has been changed so much that it no longer resembles the original.
Who do we have to thank for this mess? Successive governments that were only looking out for their own best interests, instead of looking out for the interests of its citizens. Because of these changes that are not in the best interests of our citizens, there are now some forward thinkers that are trying to opt out of this arrangement. Quebec and Alberta come immediately to mind, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia had a hissy fit and Paul Martin, our illustrious PM [squared] relented and gave them what they wanted.
Which brings us back to the Gomery inquiry and the mess that this country now finds itself in. The Liberals figured that since it had the “mandate of the people” to try and keep Quebec in confederation, and that large sums of money were going to be used to coerce the people of Quebec to stay in confederation, that a few million here and a few million there were not going to be missed, and hey, just like anybody, they needed the money to stay in power, so why not line their pockets with some of the money, and if there was “an uproar” made about the amount of money being spent on “SPONSORSHIP”, then they could say that there were cost overruns and we the sheep would believe them. Furthermore, the people involved in “the payback scheme” wouldn’t be stupid enough to complain about what was happening, after all what about the “honour among thieves code”, you know the one where no one bites the hand that’s feeding them.
So what went wrong, I am not sure, maybe someone became jealous of the amount of money going to “the next guy” and not to him, maybe some “professional jealousy” about the amount of “supposed” business going to the next ad agency and not to “my” agency, because you know “I” too am a great believer in the idea of Canada and “I” want some (read all) of that business, “I” have bills to pay and a family to support too.
Just so you know, I really don’t know what went wrong, hell I don’t understand the amount of support that the Liberal party of Canada has. All I know is that “something went terribly wrong” and we now have the Gomery inquiry, we also have our “illustrious” PM [squared], saying “I am not a crook” (does this sound familiar?), I knew nothing about what was happening (I was only the Minister of Finance at the time), it was some “low level people”, and when we find out who the perpetrators are, well they will surely be tried as criminals, and punished as such. Don’t paint all of the Liberal party with the same brush (only I can do that against the scourge from hell, namely the Hells Angels motorcycle club of Toronto).
And this “spin” on the story is working with “some of the people” (namely the ASSHOLES from Ontario, and maybe some of the people of the Maritimes, maybe with some of the “new arrivals” in our country as well, who think that the Liberals are their saviours, after all, it was and is the Liberals who are “allowing” all their relatives into our Country to vote for them). And just to make myself clear, (in case there was some doubt), I am not one of the “people” who believe that the Liberals are innocent, that someone was using their name to defraud the people of Canada, as far as I am concerned, the Liberal party, after Mr. Gomery has finished his “investigation” into the “sponsorship scandal”, and he has had the opportunity to table his report, “Then and only Then, IF and only IF” there is sufficient evidence to bring criminal charges against “certain” members of the Liberal Party, then I think that charges should be brought against the Liberal Party as well, after all we have “gang laws” in this country, that is how PM [squared] is painting and going after the Hells Angels motorcycle club of Toronto (and no I am not now or have ever been a member of the Hells Angels, I am just a person who believes that “all” laws should be applied fairly across the board). Once again I am not alone in my thoughts, one of the “Senators in waiting” from our great province of Alberta is saying the same thing: here are links to his sites:
http://www.citizenscentre.com/index.html
http://www.anticorruption.ca/
You can say that he is just throwing a “hissy” fit because he and the rest of the “elected” senators from Alberta were not appointed by PM [squared], or maybe he really has the best interests of Canadians in mind (unlike the Liberal government), you decide.
There are more thoughts going round in my head that I won’t even bring to the table, thoughts that I am sure would result in “some form of investigation” into my character if I were to write about them, and I am quite sure that I am not the only one with these similar thoughts, but one thought that I will share with you.
Has anyone thought of what passport our PM [squared] has?
I mean this is the same guy who as “captain” of Canada Steamship Lines, will not register “his” ships in Canada, (for details about this and other Liberal scandals see: http://www.tribil.com/scandals.html) (probably has something to do with “safety” issues and “employment” issues, and has nothing to do with avoiding paying Canadian taxes, I mean after all he is PM [squared]).
Tonight at 7:45pm EST, that is 5:45pm in Alberta and 4:45pm in BC, and, well the rest of you can figure it out for yourselves, though in Nova Scotia, it should be at 8:45pm. Our illustrious PM [squared] is going to give us a talking to, it is not going to be a long talking to, only 6 minutes, there will be no question period after, just 6 minutes of listening to the story that he, Paul Martin wants us to believe. (gee if it was only 2 minutes longer, it could be the missing 8 minutes from the Watergate tapes). I for one will be glued to the TV to hear the “words of wisdom” from our “esteemed” leader. No, I will not be running to my computer to post the “gist” of what was said right after the broadcast, there will be enough of that happening from other sources (see the blog roll above, and check the major news feeds). I will however at some time in the future, report on what I think was said (my thoughts and a buck and a half will buy me a coffee).
The leader of the separation party of Alberta,( http://www.separationalberta.com/) has come out on a Hamilton radio station and has advised the people of Ontario, that a vote for the liberals in the next Federal election will result in a stronger separatist movement in Western Canada, here is a link to what he had to say:
http://www.separationalberta.com/news/news_item.asp?NewsID=209
There is already talk that this scandal has given the separatists in Quebec more momentum than what they have had in the past, not too bad for a party that was against Quebec separating and destroying their beloved country, and taking away their reason d’etre.
One of many EXTREMELY sore points for me was watching the citizens of Krygyzsan protest their corrupt government, and they have forced an election in their country , and I somehow don’t think for a minute that their level of corruption is as bad as what we are talking about here. Another protest in the world that caught my attention was the people of Taiwan protesting what the Chinese had “said” they were going to do to the country if some event in the country happened (sorry I don’t remember all the details), I only remember that there was a LARGE protest with about a million people, including their president or whatever their leader is called.
Maybe the time has come for some civil disobedience on the part of the Canadian people, realizing that there are some “great” distances between the regions of Canada, and people do have to earn a living, maybe a protest on the steps of Parliament in Ottawa is out of the question for the majority of Canadians. However, there are other “protests” that each and every one of us can indulge in, write letters to your MP’s (especially the opposition ones, and don’t forget to include the leader of the official opposition, Mr. Stephen Harper, advising them and him of your discontent with the ruling party, asking them to “force” an election right NOW). Maybe we can “protest” outside of Liberal riding offices (not sure how to put this one together, but I am sure there are Liberals MP’s sitting in Parliament in each and every major city in Canada, and the best time to protest outside of their offices is on the weekend when they have come home to see what the people have to say, and we the people are not having to earn a living).
Citizens of Canada, the time has come to rise up and get rid of the Liberal party, they have outlived their usefulness
I will now step off my soap box and give it to someone else to run with, however I wanted to add a bit of humour first, I ran this post through “spell-check” and much to my shock, this post is written to a grade 12 comprehension level, obviously it is not being written for the people of Ontario.
