THE ELECTION IS FINALLY OVER…………..

After at least four weeks of kissing hands and shaking babies….. The election is over. The candidate that I was helping did not get elected, for that matter, none of the Separation Party candidates were elected. I guess that the people of Alberta are just not ready for a change. (Not sure what it is going to take before they are ready for a change??)

Overall we received just under 4700 votes, and that worked out to be 1% of the votes cast, not too bad for the first time running! Just like in federal politics, there are too many parties on the right, not sure if we should be getting together with the leaders of the other parties to open dialogues with them about joining together and forming one party. The fear that I have about that is that all the policies tend to get watered down, and since we are aiming for Separation, and they are not, I am not sure if we can solve all the differences and have a unified party? But that is not up to me to decide. That takes the Board of Directors of our party to get together and discuss the issue.

On a happier note, we did manage to from our constituency association, now we have between three and five years to get stronger, and try to find a qualified candidate to run! For now, I have put myself forward as the candidate, so the association can move forward and open a bank account. In the New Year we will try to hold an open meeting with the community, try and sell additional memberships, and try to elect some other people to the board of directors.

Having spent the last month helping the candidate try and get elected, I have come to the conclusion that one of the ways to get elected is to have a large force of volunteers to help with the hand kissing and baby shaking, also to make those phone calls to all the constituents and to put up the signs.
